Huelva
Birding walk through the wetland in the west of the National Park of Doñana in the province of Huelva.
Doñana is a vast area and at least 2 days are needed to visit the most interesting points. In the west we visit El Rocio and the river La Rocina which enters the “Marsh Mother”, an astonishing birding spot when it is wet. Nearby, there are several visitor’s centres with nice footpaths and hides where we can observe many varieties of waterfowl and aquatic birds.
Possible birds for the checklist:
Residents: Glossy Ibis, Spoonbill, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Flamingo, Squacco Heron, Red-crested Pochard, Hoopoe, Red-knobbed Coot, Tree Sparrow, Purple Swamphen. You may also catch a glimpse of the rare Spanish Imperial Eagle and Ferruginous Duck.
Winter Birds: Greylag Goose, Pintail, Shoveler, Wigeon, Great Egret, Black-tailed Godwit, Snipe.
Summer Birds: Black Kite, Savi´s Warbler, Purple Heron, Bee-eater, Little Bittern, Gull-billed Tern, Booted Eagle, Whiskered Tern, Subalpine Warbler., Iberian Chiffchaff.
Migrants: Sedge Warbler, Garganey, Temminck´s Stint, Spotted Redshank, Whinchat, Wood Sandpiper.
We start from the Bird Centre of SEO/Birdlife in El Rocio to walk through the edge of the National Park of Doñana in the province of Huelva, west of Andalucia. El Rocio is located 45 minutes both to the south-west of Seville City and the east of Huelva City.
The duration of the trip depends on the weather, the numbers of birds that come across and the interest in the special species. Normally we will spend 4 hours and walk around 7 Km.

All year round although the area might be too dry in the summer as well as in periods of drought.
Please mind it can be extremely hot in the summer and very cold in the winter.
All our guides speak fluent English and the tour can be done in French, Portuguese or Catalan on demand.
