The Guadiana is one of the big rivers of the Iberian Peninsula and its beautiful final part is navigable for small boats. We start at Sanlúcar de Guadiana with its Portuguese twin town of Alcoutim on the other side of the river. An old Roman causeway drives us to the old railway of Puerto La Laja, a very important harbour at the beginning of the 20th Century to take the manganese off from the near mines. Our destination is Pomarao in Portugal through the bridge which was built recently to connect both countries at this point.
